Description
Never thought I would love the feel of wool in the warmer weather, but this is an exception. Maybe a change of heart altogether regarding sweaters in the summertime – but I am loving this crocheted sweater in warm weather.
The weight is very light – a #2 weight sport yarn made of wool and nylon – and that is perhaps why it is so comfortable. Also, I used a smaller hook than I usually do to make a crochet fabric which is light, but that you cannot see through – thus eliminating the need for a tank top or coverup underneath. The need to wear an undergarment makes the sweater twice as warm, much like a lined jacket, and therefore, hot in the summer.
To design a sweater that is easy to make, but looks interesting, I crocheted with a speckled yarn from KnitCrate named Audine Wool (the colorway is Flirt) and also added a matching ribbing to the sleeves, hem and neckline. Ribbing sets it off and is a great finish to firm up the drapey fabric.
This is a BOXY sweater.
The cuffs on the sleeves are slightly decreased so they fit your arm.
This Summer Essential can be made from any #2 weight yarn. Cotton Fair by Premier, Beautiful You by Lion Brand and a host of other yarns can be used. Be sure to make a swatch and check for drapiness (how loose it falls when holding from one end). To try something totally new, you can crochet it with a #3 weight as well.
Whatever the yarn, enjoy the boxy, trendy fit of this Summer Essential.
Happy crocheting!
