Choose a solid or tonal yarn to show off the ribs and give this vest the best look — but of course, you can use any yarn. Also, you can crochet your NorthWest Vest in a size 4, or even a size 3 weight (or DK) – any of these will give you some beautiful ribs!
I used Lion Brand’s Basic Stitch to crochet mine, in the Gold Heather colorway. This is a new yarn to me, but soft and easy to crochet – no splitting that I’ve noticed, and it is a non-pilling yarn, so the garments I make with it will be long lasting. And it’s very very soft.
The back of this vest wraps around you, and is connected under the arm to the front pieces, which makes this vest very easy to crochet.
The front lapels flip outward, and are crocheted directly into the front.
Instructions are easy to follow and this design is a beginner’s dream! Intermediate and advanced crocheters should be able to make NorthWest Vest with ease. Wear your NorthWest Vest with a turtleneck in cool weather, or a tee in the spring to give you that bit of warmth or cover you need.
