Description
The Advent season – a beautiful time of the year – one month before Christmas when we can reflect on our family and friends’ relationships, and embrace a spirit of giving. This Advent Cowl represents that season. I designed this symbolic cowl – so beautiful by virtue of the Advent colors, and symbolic in both color and form.
Many Christian religions, including Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Methodist, Presbyterian, and others celebrate the season with certain colors – liturgical colors — representing the 4 weeks of Advent.
Beginning with purple, the color of expectation and longing, we crochet two rows per week of Advent. On the third Sunday, represented by pink or rose, a symbol of encouragement to being almost at the nativity, but still another week to go, we crochet 2 rows of pink. Then, one more purple week follows.
Finally, at the nativity week, during which Christmas Day falls, we represent that with white, symbolizing purity and the birth of our Lord.
Reminiscent of his suffering later in life, we use cross stitch in Rows 3 and 4 – our humble acknowledgment of His 33rd year.
The border at the white edge of your Advent Cowl is crocheted in a crown design, representing the King of the Universe, who Christian believers agree, is Jesus the Christ. We celebrate His appearing on earth to grow and walk among us, and to give us the ultimate Gift.
